We spoke with Wolves Head Coach Dwane Casey to get a progress report on
several of his players, to see what he hopes to accomplish in the last
few days of practice before the regular season starts, and to touch base
about how he's feeling personally at the commencement of his second full
season as an NBA head coach.

Mike Trudell: Thanks for being with us, coach Casey. Can you talk about
what you want to focus on in practice leading up to the season opener?
Head coach Dwane Casey: We're going to break our offensive sets down into
different situations, emphasizing cutting turnovers and making the easy play.
We also need to focus on our pick-and-roll defense, and how we want to play
it. We have two or three different ways we want to play it, so we really want
to slow things down and work on that.
MT: 謝謝你接受我們的訪問，你能談談開季訓練的重點嗎?
Casey : 我們正在準備新的進攻戰術，減少失誤，製造一些進攻機會。我們也正在加強

MT: How important was it for Randy Foye and Craig Smith to log late-game
experience last week against Chicago?
DC: It’s going to help. Maybe not today in practice, but it’s going to
help soon in games. The more they are in those situations, the more
repetitions they have, the better they’re going to be. Being in that
situation over and over again is what you want. For Randy, it’s good to
do it against a Kirk Hinrich. Last year Marcus Banks had to come in defending
the pick-and-roll run by Speedy Claxton, and that’s a heck of a way to break
in.
MT : 讓兩位新人在對公牛的熱身賽關鍵時刻留在場上有重要的幫助嗎?
Casey : 目前看不出來，但很快就會有效果了。他們越熟悉那樣的情形，就越能掌握狀
況。能夠經歷那樣的關鍵時期是每一個人的願望。Randy對上Hinrich表現很好
。去牛我們有銀行可以對抗Speedy Claxton的跑位，今年Randy就是我們切入這
一點的方法之一。(目前看起來好像不是這樣??)
MT: Hinrich is certainly no slouch…
DC: I think he’s one of the top guards in the league. To get to break
yourself in against a guy like that is good work. That’s what exhibition
is for.
MT : Hinrich似乎沒什麼被守住。(-_-)
Casey : 我想，他是聯盟中頂極的後衛，能像今天那樣全心投入防守他已經是非常不錯
了。那就是熱身賽的目的。
MT: Because he’s consistently so dominant, we don’t talk about Kevin
Garnett every day. Can you address the Big Ticket’s play this preseason?
DC: He’s been solid. He’s been a leader not only during practice, but
in the summertime, getting all of the guys in here playing, and I think
they’re in great shape because of that. He runs the floor, gets it done,
talks on defense, and just gives everyone confidence, and that’s been
extremely important.
MT : 因為KG總是那麼關鍵，我們已經很少在談他每天的表現怎樣怎樣。你能說說我們
的大門票表現的怎麼樣嗎?
Casey : 他是那麼的穩定，不但帶領其他人練習，在夏季聯盟也幫助所有人進入狀況。
我想全隊有這麼好的狀態，KG功不可沒。他上場作好工作，討論防守，讓每一
個人都充滿信心，這就是最最最重要的事。
MT: KG was on the bench at the end of the Chicago game cheering his
teammates on, but we won’t see much of that in the regular season.
How do you plan on using him with the other guys that might also be on
the floor.
DC: We will look at different combinations once the regular season starts
with Mike James, Randy Foye, Ricky Davis and maybe a smaller lineup. Craig
Smith I think has looked great too, and he’s earned our trust.
MT : KG在對公牛時在場邊當拉拉隊，這不可能在季賽發生。你打算如何讓他在關鍵時

Casey : 開季後他會和偽大帝、Foye(!!?)、Davis與一個小號的球員上場。Smith表現

MT: In your second year as head coach here, do you feel more calm on a macro
level, and does that allow you to be more selective when it comes to what
to correct? DC: Exactly, that’s a good analogy. I can see the big picture
now, instead of seeing every play. That’s what Bob (Ociepka), Randy
(Wittman) and the staff have done a good job of. We know what we’re looking
for and what mistakes need to be emphasized.
MT : 你第二年執教灰狼，看起來更加冷靜沉著。這有讓你更能作出正確的決定嗎?
Casey : 沒錯，這是個好推論。我現在能看到更大的方向，而不單是注意每天的比賽。
那交給Bob和Randy Wittman就夠好了。我們知道要追求什麼，有哪些錯誤要特
別避免。
MT: Mike James hasn’t been shooting as well as he would like to, but the
ball still looks great coming out of his hand. You have to figure that’s
going to come around, right?
DC: Oh yeah, it’s just a matter of time. Like swimming, you don’t forget.
I think he’ll start to knock those down. It’s a different mindset for veterans in the preseason, because they know it’s not for real, but you have to start getting those good habits down. It was good to see him attacking the paint when his shots weren’t falling.
MT : 偽大帝似乎沒有這麼準了。但手感還不錯，你對他有什麼打算?
Casey : 啊哈，這只是時間的問題。就像是游泳。你一但會了，就不會忘。我想他馬上
就會回到狀況中，老將不太需要擔心這個問題。
MT: And as we’re talking right now, Mike James is in front of us working on
his shooting.
DC: He’s done a good job of coming early, and he is always the first one at
practice getting his shots up with the coaches. He’s also probably the last
one you leave, and that’s what you want. The rookies see that, and have
been following his example.
MT : 偽大帝正在旁邊練投呢!!
Casey : 他每天總是最早到球場練投，他大概也是最後一個離開的人。這就是我們想看
到的，菜鳥們會看到，並且效法他。
MT: Are you excited to get in front of a big crowd on opening night against
the Kings?
DC: Oh yes, we’re really excited. Our fans are great, and we’ve gotten a
lot of letters and emails from fans, and with the addition of guys, everyone
being healthy, should make this an exciting season. Guys are tired of going
against each other in practice, and you’ll see the intensity level go up in
the regular season.
MT : 開幕在廣大球迷面前對上國王，你有沒有很興奮啊^^
Casey : 當然，我們都非常興奮。我們的球迷棒極了，寄來許多信件和 email。現在球
員狀況良好，身體健康，絕對會讓這個球季非常精彩。每一個人都厭倦了練習
，準備在比賽中大展身手。
MT: The fans don’t need to be concerned about Troy Hudson, correct?
DC: Right, if it were the regular season, he’d be ready to go. We’re just
taking the precautionary measures on the ankle he tweaked, which is his good
ankle, not the one he had surgery on.
MT : 球迷不用擔心炸彈超人吧?
Casey :嗯，對。他已經準備好開季了。我們才作了預防檢查，扭到的只是他本來沒有
受傷的那一隻腳踝，沒什麼好擔心的。
MT: Are you satisfied with your team’s ability to get to the free throw line?
DC: We’re attacking the basket, being aggressive and utilizing the girls,
and I think we need to continue to do that and not to settle for jump shots.
We want to be aggressive, attack the basket, whether it’s the offensive
boards or off the dribble.
MT : 你對你的球隊上罰球的次數有什麼看法。
Casey : 我們會更積極進攻籃框，而不是老是站在外面跳投。持續進攻籃下，不論是透
過傳球戰術或是單打進攻，都必須更積極些。
