Windows 10 is a series of operating systems developed by Microsoft and
released as part of its Windows NT family of operating systems. It is the
successor to Windows 8.1, released nearly two years earlier, and was released
to manufacturing on July 15, 2015, and broadly released for the general
public on July 29, 2015.[18] Windows 10 was made available for download via
MSDN and Technet, and as a free upgrade for retail copies of Windows 8 and
Windows RT users via the Windows Store. Windows 10 receives new builds on an
ongoing basis, which are available at no additional cost to users, in
addition to additional test builds of Windows 10, which are available to
Windows Insiders. Devices in enterprise environments can receive these
updates at a slower pace, or use long-term support milestones that only
receive critical updates, such as security patches, over their ten-year
lifespan of extended support.[19][20]
Windows 10 received mostly positive reviews upon its original release.
Critics praised Microsoft's decision to provide a desktop-oriented interface
in line with previous versions of Windows, contrasting the tablet-oriented
approach of Windows 8, although Windows 10's touch-oriented user interface
mode was criticized for containing regressions upon the touch-oriented
interface of its predecessor. Critics also praised the improvements to
Windows 10's bundled software over Windows 8.1, Xbox Live integration, as
well as the functionality and capabilities of the Cortana personal assistant
and the replacement of Internet Explorer with Edge. However, media outlets
have been critical of the changes to operating system behaviors, including
mandatory update installation, privacy concerns over data collection
performed by the OS for Microsoft and its partners, and adware-esque tactics
used to promote the operating system on its release.[21]
Microsoft initially aimed to have Windows 10 installed on over a billion
devices within three years of its release;[19] that goal was ultimately
reached almost five years later on March 16, 2020.[22] By January 2018,
Windows 10 surpassed Windows 7 as the most popular version of Windows
worldwide;[23] and by May 2020, Windows 10 surpassed Windows 7 as the most
popular version of Windows in China.[24] As of November 2020, it is estimated
that 77% of Windows PCs are running Windows 10,[23] with that figure being
59% of all PCs (including Mac/Linux) and 28% of all devices (including
mobile, tablet and console).[25][26]

Windows 10 est un système d'exploitation de la famille Windows NT développ
é par la société américaine Microsoft. Officiellement présenté le 30
septembre 2014, il est disponible publiquement depuis le 29 juillet 2015.
Bien que le système s'appelle Windows 10, il s'agit de la version NT 6.4
pour les versions jusqu’à la Technical Preview la première version
de Windows NT 6 était Windows Vista. Windows 10 reste une ultime version de
Windows NT 6.0 ; néanmoins depuis la version finale il porte bel et bien le
numéro interne 10 en lieu et place de 6.4. Il est le successeur de Windows
8.1.
À la conférence Build 2015 qui s'est déroulée du 29 avril au 1er mai à
San Francisco, Microsoft a annoncé que le remplaçant d'Internet Explorer,
connu jusqu'alors sous le nom de Project Spartan, s'appellerait Microsoft
Edge. De plus, Microsoft a donné de nombreux détails sur la création
d'applications pour Windows 10 qui seront disponibles sur PC, smartphones et
tablettes (notamment la Surface Hub), mais aussi sur les consoles Xbox One et
sur le casque de réalité augmentée Microsoft HoloLens. Les applications dé
veloppées pour Windows 10 s'appellent désormais Universal Windows Apps
(UWP).
Une déclinaison adaptée à un usage nomade, Windows 10 Mobile, est é
galement disponible pour les smartphones, tablettes et autres appareils
mobiles à processeurs ARM et dont l'écran fait moins de 8 pouces. Les
tablettes et hybrides de plus de 8 pouces ont obligatoirement une
architecture 32 bits ou 64 bits et exécutent Windows 10 pour PC.
À noter que, pour la première fois depuis sa création en 1985, Windows est
proposé sur une clé USB lors de l'achat. Il ne peut booter en tant que tel
sur cette clé ni sur aucun support externe, sans doute volontairement à des
fins de sécurité : si l'on pouvait booter sur une telle clé, on se
retrouverait avec un statut d'administrateur sur n'importe quelle machine. La
clé USB n'est qu'un support d'installation considérablement plus rapide
qu'un CD ou DVD.
Afin d'inciter les utilisateurs à migrer rapidement leurs ordinateurs vers
ce nouveau système d'exploitation, un programme publicitaire (GWX.exe) qui
est disponible via la mise à jour KB3035583 depuis le 1er juin 2015, est mis
dans la zone de notification pour les éditions Pro et Famille (sauf
Entreprise) des systèmes Windows 7, Windows 8 et Windows 8.1. De plus, ce
programme ouvrait régulièrement des fenêtres et/ou forçait la mise à
niveau sans le consentement de l'utilisateur et l'enlever requérait
certaines compétences. Cette offre gratuite était valable jusqu'au 29
juillet 2016 à 0 h (heure française). Après cette date, la mise à niveau
vers Windows 10 est devenue payante.
Microsoft a mis à disposition des utilisateurs un site web récapitulant
l'historique des mises à jour de Windows 101.
Windows 10 est la dernière version de Windows actuellement disponible, et sa
dernière mise à jour de fonctionnalités est la version 20H2 (mise à jour
d'octobre 2020) qui est sortie le 20 octobre 2020.

Volumenlizenz handelte.[7]
Das Pendant des Betriebssystems für einige mobile Geräte wie Smartphones
wird als Windows 10 Mobile bezeichnet.
Der Marktanteil von Windows 10 unter den Windows-Betriebssystemen lag im
April 2020 bei 73 Prozent.[8]
