Extensive Reading Study Group
Brief introduction of ERSG:
This Extensive Reading Study Group (short to be ERSG hereinafter) is a new
English study group located at 東海中科 area.
ESRG is not only new but also experimental on it's proceeding way which aims
at improving English ability with the challenge of English ability
insufficiency and gap between Members. The effect of this experimental
proceeding way might be good or might be chaotic. We will find it out soon.
ERSG proceeding way will be explained as follows. The explanation might seem
long but the exact proceeding way is simple. I hope the long explanation won't
scare you away.
Explanation of Extensive Reading and Echoing
As titled in this Study Group's name, first thing's first:

Besides, at the end of is ERSG establisher's murmur in which he will
describe his experience relating to Extensive Reading and Echoing and why he
want to create ERSG based on those skills.
Discussion, how about it?
Most of people come to join English study group for one reason at least:
She/He is not really capable of discussing like native speaker.
I (Samuel) once joined former PEC at 中興大學. The discussion there struggled
even when there are a bulk of skilled members, including foreigner English
teacher, high school English teacher, English Department graduate with
threshold of Toeic 800/850.
Its activities are delicately designed such as prepared speech, weekly host
with article and questions for group discussion, or fascinating game play.
However, English ability gap or Chinese-translating-to-English speaking is
still painfully unavoidable. Host, if without difficult labor, will try to
find interesting and aspiring article. But interesting often means
unfamiliar. The discussion only struggled worse for weekly host system. (PEC
activities are really good if it's led by experienced host. Current PEC do
so and is really awesome. It is worth a try, free the first time.)
Therefore, ERSG won't focus on discussion unless it's time to do so. ERSG
will focus more on learning directly from native speaker and practice first.

Basics: Meeting Rules
1. Do Speech/Presentation first and have Discussion if any.(Note) If nothing
else to do, watch video together or study by yourself individually. You can
practice any time you want with all the best audiences around.
2. Grouping for possible efficient free/topic discussion. (Others could
still join and audit)
Note: As explained above, you can quit discussion if you feel you are out of
condition, such as you having been into Chinese-translating-English mode or
throat thirsty. In the opposite side, you need to handle it when others quit
discussion suddenly. Not every discussion needs a formal ending.

Big Uncle degree old. Join a novel reading study group when toeic is 720,
hardly to open a mouth. Create a skype study group when toeic is 810, the
group lasted for two months only. Join the former PEC study group when toeic
is 890, could only speak Taiwanese English falteringly.
At a work needing to face foreign customers from different countries who
always want to look for trouble. Sometimes I can have a clear conversation
but sometimes I can't. The chance to speak English is not often but it’s
really a battle field every time when it's needed to speak English.

Note 3: It's the only rule to invalidate membership. The purpose is to keep
activeness of the group, and it won't be performed strictly. Even if

ERSG establisher's murmur
I've known Extensive Reading method long time ago. However, even I've
watched hundreds of TV series episodes, but I've never completely read a
whole book. Now what I'm trying to create is the Extensive Reading study
group.
As for Echoing method, at first I just tried to practice singing song. It
started by Frozen songs about 1 year ago. It's until 2 months ago when I
first know the so-called Echoing method. I'm surprised to find it's exactly
what I am doing in those times!
I've had the idea of Extensive Reading study group for a long time. One big
obstacle is what to do in meeting. I can still remember how I and some others
struggled in study group meeting. Knowing Echoing method is an accident and
it's solved the biggest problem. When doing echoing practicing, I can feel the
effect that echoing/pronouncing improves listening and listening in turn
improves pronouncing. It do approach native speaker a little near and a
little far from Taiwanese English. On the other hand, I have reached the
limit of learning from watching TV series. I expect to expand the vocabulary
through Extensive Reading. I don't know if ERSG can work and how long ERSG
can last, but it is worth a shot. Let's do and see.
