A blast, a bunt and a blast.Red Soxmanager Terru Francona will be the
first to tell you that he did not author that surprising--yet victorious---
script, but it was one he was more than happy to take after watching his
team scrape out a 5-1 win over the Angels that capped a series in which
nothing came easy.
The Red Sox found themselves lockes in a scoreless tie in the top of the
eighth inning on getaway Sunday at Angel Stadium, and they badly wanted to
leave town with a split of a four-game series against an opponent they might
see again come October,
Edgar Renteria produced the most significant hit of the day, belting a two-out,
three-run homer in that eighth, suddenly giving the Red Sox a 3-0 lead on
what had been a flawless dat for Angels starter Paul Byrd up to that point.
The power drought had dragged on and on for Renteria and then he logted it
with ine clutch swing that sent him on a home run trot to savor.
Renteria had gooone 199 at-bats without a home run since last going deep at
Cleveland against Cliff Lee on June 22.In other words,Reneria ended his
unenviable dry spell a mere one day shy of wha would hace been his two-month
anniversary since his last roundtripper.
