Spurs' Kawhi Leonard will not play in Summer Olympics
Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard will join a number of American basketball stars
in opting to stay home for the 2016 Summer Olympics, sources confirmed to the
Express-News.

Citing the birth of his first child, due in July, Leonard has declined an
invitation to join Team USA's 12-man roster in Rio.

Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis, James Harden,
Russell Westbrook, John Wall, Andre Drummond, Damian Lillard, and Spurs
teammate LaMarcus Aldridge have all removed their names from consideration
for Team USA's 12-man roster for reasons of rest and recovery.

of Zika virus and unsanitary conditions in Rio that loomed over the games for
months have also caused some of the world's top athletes to drop out.

Even without the likes of Leonard and Curry and James, Team USA will still
field a strong roster. Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, DeMar DeRozan, DeAndre
Jordan, Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, Carmelo Anthony, DeMarcus Cousins and Paul
George have all reportedly committed to play for Coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Warriors guard Klay Thompson and Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving are also

Team USA is scheduled to play a five-game exhibition showcase in Las Vegas
from July 22-Aug. 1 before the Olympics officially commence on Aug. 5.
