Denis Shapovalov and Alex de Minaur join stellar Shenzhen field

Shenzhen Longgang Sports Center will host the fifth edition of the Shenzhen
Open in the last week of September and the organizers have already signed six
amazing players who will compete for the title at this ATP 250 event. Back in
May, they have announced that the defending champion David Goffin will defend
his crown won in 2017 and he was followed by the upcoming youngsters Borna
Coric and Stefanos Tsitsipas who also agreed to play in China. Just a few
days later we got the confirmation that a former world number 1 and the
inaugural Shenzhen champion Andy Murray joins the field as well, adding this
event to his comeback trail after playing only two ATP tournaments so far in
2018.
The organizers didn't stop there and they managed to bring more high-quality
players to the roster, with Denis Shapovalov and Alex de Minaur looking to
make their Shenzen debut in September. Shapovalov and de Minaur are the best
players born in 1999 and 2016 Wimbledon junior finalists, both seeking the
first title on the Tour. Denis is currently ranked 27th after winning 20
matches so far in 2018, despite a poor run on grass where he earned just two
wins in four tournaments. Alex is on a career-high 68th position, reaching
the third round at Wimbledon where he had a chance to play against world
number 1 Rafael Nadal and making a winning start in Atlanta this week to set
the second round clash against John Isner. Staged in the same week as
Chengdu, Shenzhen will try to attract more good players in the following
months and this could be one of the best ATP 250 events of the season.
