※ 引述《dvlin (Dee)》之銘言: : Choose one of the following topics: : 1. Some people believe that students should be given one long vacation each : year. Others believe that students should have several short vacations : throughout the year. Which viewpoint do you agree with? This issue can be viewed from two angles. First, in the position of the school, you can think of it as an institution working like a business model, which means it has to take into consideration how much returns with respect to how much investment. For the academic industry, the substantial returns not necessarily come only from the financial, but more importantly, the academic performance of the teaching staff and students. And since how would a school's professional staff and students perform in various fields is somewhat unpredictable and subjective, the administrative branch of the school should focus on what they can ensure--the smoothness of the learning and teaching process. To ensure an educational institution functions smoothly, it needs robust infrastructure, including ample cable networks, high quality teaching classrooms, special laboratories and adequate labwares to experiment with. And even standard sporting fields and courts. Some need regular overhaul and retrofitting. When the time to fix and construct comes, it'd better happen on a recess, which means no pedestrians come and go, interrupting the process of construction. So this justifies the existence of long vacations. Second, in the position of the student, they can benefit from the extra time to engage in different kinds of learning activities. They can even initiate and host those activities, enjoying certain degree of political freedom. In fact, for a student as a consumer, he or she should care how much one can learn from the tuition which has been paid. The professor teach all they have to teach, in whatever method, and the student should absorb no matter how. And a long vacation is exactly when they can think about it. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 114.44.145.144
