The winger was handed to the Biancocelesti along with ￡5.5m as part of the deal that took Massimo Oddo to Milan. However, he was unhappy at the lack of playing time afforded to him at the Olimpico this season – where he had been on loan – and made it clear he wanted a new atmosphere. Although Sampdoria were tipped to be leading the race by his agent yesterday, it has now been officially confirmed that Foggia has joined Reggina on loan. “As a Southerner, I am happy to have accepted this challenge in an important club for this area of Italy,” commented the native Neapolitan on the official Amaranto website. “I will try to give my contribution so that the team can achieve its objective to secure its Serie A safety.” Reggina have had a troubled campaign with the 11-point Calciopoli penalty and this week's surprise sale of star player Leon to Genoa. “Without that penalty they would be in mid-table, as so far they have had a fantastic season thanks to good players and a great Coach. “I already know Rolando Bianchi, Maurizio Lanzaro and Giandomenico Mesto from the Under-21 international scene. Regardless of that, I usually adapt quickly to any environment and cannot wait to start training with the squad.” When asked why he had chosen the Stadio Granillo rather than the larger side and ambitions of Sampdoria, Foggia spoke directly to the gallery. “My decision went towards Reggina for many reasons, but above all because I know the warmth of the fans, which is very important for players.
