Fed cup- Sprem sidelined with elbow injury
A right elbow injury to Karolina Sprem has forced Croatian captain Goran
Prpic to start the tie against Russia without his best player. Saturday’s
opening match will be Ivana Lisjak against 19-year old prospect Anna
Chakvetadze, followed by Elena Dementieva, the only one of Russia’s four Top
10 players in the team, against Sanja Ancic, the 17-year-old younger sister
of Croatia's Davis Cup star "Super Mario" Ancic:

Mighty Russia, winner for the last two years of Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, was
forced into a playoff match for a place in the World Group in 2007 after
losing its quarterfinal to a full-strength Belgium, with both Justine
Henin-Hardenne and Kim Clijsters in the team. The Russian team came to Umag a
full week ahead of the tie against Croatia with Elena Dementieva as a leading
force. The most experienced player of the tie enjoyed a week of preparations
for the upcoming match.
