Oliver invited to Rockies' camp
DENVER -- Colorado has reunited with its wins leader from two seasons ago by
signing left-handed pitcher Darren Oliver to a minor league contract with an
invitation to Major League Spring Training.
Oliver, 34, who went 13-11 with a 5.04 ERA in 2003 for Colorado and a
combined 3-3 with a 5.94 ERA for Florida and Houston in 2004, was one of three
pitchers the club confirmed Tuesday will be in camp.
Others are right-handed pitchers Tim Drew, who made 11 relief appearances for
Atlanta last season (0-0, 4.50 ERA), and Eddie Gaillard, who spent the past
five seasons in Japan after going 2-0 with a 4.66 ERA in 30 combined games, all
in relief, with Detroit (1997) and Tampa Bay (1998-99).
The signings bring the total of non-roster players receiving camp invitations
to 11. Others are outfielders Reggie Taylor and Tony Miller, pinch-hit
specialists Greg Norton and Andy Tracy, infielders Eddy Garabito and Tim Olson,
catcher Danny Ardoin and right-handed pitcher David Cortes.
