Commentary: Positives aside, Rockets’ season facing the end

LOS ANGELES — We’ll always have Game 4. How many perfect days can a
franchise have anyway? The Lakers were called quitters, losers, dogs,
gypsies, tramps and thieves after failing to show up Sunday afternoon at
Toyota Center. Wakeup call anyone?
我們總是有第四戰，但是主力球員又有多少表現完美的日子呢? 湖人在第四戰火箭主場
輸球以後，被罵的一無是處。
The Rockets spent 48 hours reminding themselves that the Lakers wouldn’t
pull a second straight no-show. They said all the right things about being
ready.
而火箭花了48小時沉浸在湖人下一場會繼續打的荒腔走板。他們認為所有正確的事
都已經準備好了。
The Lakers hit them anyway, relentlessly, endlessly, from start to finish,
and the Rockets were blown out 118-78 Tuesday night in Game 5.
但是第五戰，湖人無情的把火箭打爆了，118-78 大勝40分。
Kobe Bryant took over early — controlling the tempo, making plays, forcing
mistakes — and everything was easy after that.
Kobe在一開賽就掌控了比賽的節奏，他得分，且製造火箭的失誤，在那之後，他們就

If you’re squeamish, don’t read this paragraph. The Lakers sprinted to a
25-point halftime lead and stretched it to 40 in the third quarter.

Now the Rockets are up against it, pushed to the edge, fighting to avoid
elimination Thursday in Game 6.

After everything this team has been through, after all the injuries and
makeovers and all the rest, they’ve almost run out of time.

"If it was easy, a caveman could do it," Ron Artest said.

Nothing that happens now can taint what this team has accomplished. Still,
Game 5 was an embarrassment.

great thing about the playoffs. You can only stay positive."

The offense that had flowed so smoothly on Sunday was an avalanche of
turnovers and missed shots. Artest was awful, throwing up bad shots, stopping
the offense, turning it over.

The Rockets without Yao are dependent on jump shots, and there are going to
be nights those shots don’t fall. Artest, Battier and Aaron Brooks were a
combined 10-of-33.
沒有了姚明，火箭只能依賴跳投，然後今天就是怎樣都投不進。阿泰、八爺、小AB三個人
加起來投33中10。
"We’ve shown when we’re making shots, we can play with anyone," Battier
said.
巴爺說："我們已經證明了只要我們可以進球，我們可以跟任何一隊較量。"
Anyone that thinks the Rockets are better off without Yao was reminded
otherwise in a game like this one. With Yao, the Rockets have a place to go
when the offense falls apart.
覺得火箭沒有了姚明會更好的人，在像是今天這種狀況的比賽，剛好提醒了他們。
要是有姚明，如果進攻出了問題，還可以把球塞給他。
Phil Jackson started both Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol, and when Chuck Hayes
picked up his second foul midway through the first quarter, the Rockets were
dominated in the paint.
禪師用了Gasol跟Bynum當先發，而當海爺在第一節中段就背了兩次犯規後，禁區就被
他們兩個打爆了。
They were dominated in other areas, too, but this game is a reminder that
Hayes must stay on the floor.
他們也統治了其他地方，不過這場比賽確實的提醒了大家，海爺是需要在場上的。
"Right now, he’s our most important player," Battier said.

The Rockets shots 33 percent for the night, made just 5 of 29 three-pointers.
They got outscored at the foul line 28-15.

"We played just the opposite of the way we played last game," Rockets coach
Rick Adelman said. "We turned it over. We shot it poorly. We forced shots,
and when we got shots, we couldn’t make shots. It was totally different and
it just snowballed."
老A說:"我們今天打的完全跟上一場完全不一樣，我們一直失誤，球又投不進。我們被

When someone asked about adjustments the Lakers had made, Adelman grimaced.

Without Yao, the Rockets were forced to keep firing and keep firing they did.
Shane Battier and Aaron Brooks, who’d led the way on Sunday, were 6-of-18.

Give the Lakers credit for gathering themselves. Kobe Bryant took over early
and scored 26 points in just 31 minutes.
對於湖人凝聚起來，我們是該給他們一些稱讚。Kobe一開始就掌控了比賽，而且在31分鐘
就得了26分。
His supporting cast did its job, too, and the Lakers were in complete control
after about the midway point of the first quarter.
湖人的其他隊員也表現的很好，所以他們幾乎在第一節中段就掌控了比賽。
So much for our little feel-good stories. And just when things had been going
swimmingly.
其實還有很多讓我們可以小小開心的事，不過這都要在一切狀況順利時。
"It’s not over," Scola said. "Everything went wrong."

They’ll take another collective deep breath and try to recapture the magic
they had in Game 4. They also know that if Kobe is Kobe and if Bynum and
Gasol are both playing well, the Rockets have to be almost perfect.

After Game 4, the Lakers flew back home full of questions about their
resolve. One stunning game left the other team scrambling.

"I think we’re going to respond," Adelman said. "Our team has always
responded."
老A說："我們是該有些回應了，我們球隊總是會有所回應的。"
