[新聞] Sox Expected To Sign Rich Hill In Coming Days
"With the Rule 5 draft having passed, the Red Sox are expected to reach a
contract with reliever Rich Hill in the next few days, with the hope that the
Milton, MA native will compete for a major-league bullpen spot in 2011.
Hill, a free agent, pitched with the Red Sox the last month of the season, and
wanted to return to Boston. The Red Sox wanted him back as well. But sources
said the Sox wanted to wait on the results of Thursday morning's Rule 5 Draft.
Now that the draft is over, the team is expected to conclude an agreement with
Hill in the coming days.
Assuming he does sign, there's no guarantee that he will be a part of the major
league bullpen in 2011. But Hill thinks he's got a good shot.
"I think I've got a great opportunity. And that's not being cliché, that's how
I really feel. It is a great opportunity. And just to enjoy it every day, being
part of the Red Sox. To go out there, because you grew up here, grew up going
to Fenway as a little kid. It's different than other guys' experiences," Hill
said.
Hill has been working out at Fenway Park three times a week this offseason,
strengthening his surgically repaired shoulder.
"It's been a real productive offseason, kind of rejuvenating, going into this
year as opposed to last year, coming off the surgery," Hill said. "
