WAREHAM – This was a pitchers' duel that lived up to expectations.
Brewster's Anthony Ranaudo (LSU), selected 39th overall by the Boston Red Sox
in the recent draft, matched up with Wareham's Matt Barnes (UConn). Ranaudo
pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning, only allowing one hit and one
walk and struck out eight.
Barnes struck out 14 in seven innings but allowed one run.
Jeremy Schaffer hit a two-run single in a four-run eighth inning for the
Whitecaps in support of Ranaudo.
With how well each of the starters pitched, the bullpen nearly lost the lead
for each. Brewster scored those four runs in the eighth and Wareham nearly
came back with three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
