We all saw what can happen to a lineup when you trade away your cleanup
hitter. Are the Red Sox looking for anyone to back up David Ortiz?

I'm not sure I quite agree with your premise. What happened after the Red Sox
traded Manny Ramirez is that their winning percentage went from .562 with
Manny to .642 without him. The Red Sox scored 4.9 runs per game with Manny in
2008 and 5.7 without him. Moreover, Kevin Youkilis was a force in the cleanup
spot. It all got magnified because the Red Sox were shut down in Game 7. But
if they had gotten that one big hit they needed in that one game, would there
have been all this talk about missing Manny?

More than getting a cleanup hitter, I think the Red Sox simply want to
thicken their offense. It could come in the form of adding a star like free
agent Mark Teixeira or perhaps with some more subtle moves.

The thing about Schilling is that he'll probably pitch his first
regular-season game in June or July if he chooses to pitch. So a few weeks
into the season, the Red Sox would have to evaluate the state of their
rotation and whether they had a spot for the veteran righty. This one isn't
going to play out until well after the Hot Stove season is over. Schilling
did indicate he would be more than willing to pitch for the Red Sox if the
circumstances were right.

In a perfect world, it would work out very nicely and Baldelli would be a
perfect fit. However, there are the obvious questions about his health. The
ailment Baldelli had in 2008 -- mitochondrial disease -- caused excessive
fatigue. In the event that illness again hindered Baldelli, the Red Sox might
need a Plan B.

There are specific pitch rule limitations in place for the World Baseball
Classic, so Matsuzaka won't come anywhere close to throwing that many pitches
in a game. I'm sure that Matsuzaka and the Red Sox will work out a training
program so that the pitcher can do everything in his power to eliminate the
chance of fatigue or injury that could come by pitching in the World Baseball
Classic.

If Dontrelle Willis or Nate Robertson were to be traded to the Red Sox for

If such a deal was made, the one thing the Red Sox would have going for them
is the presence of pitching coach John Farrell, who is considered to be one
of the best in the game. Perhaps Farrell would be able to help regain the
mechanics and confidence of Willis or Robertson if the Red Sox acquired one
of them.

With Crisp traded, will Theo Epstein revisit a 2009 contract for Mark Kotsay

The fourth outfielder is going to be right-handed, Epstein said last week.
That eliminates Kotsay. Also, Kotsay is doing everything he can to find a
full-time job for 2009. If he can't do so, he could conceivably return to the
Red Sox as a first base-outfield rover, similar to what he did for the last
few weeks of 2008.

catcher?

In this market, it is so hard to find quality setup pitchers, especially
those who are under the contractual control of the club for several years to
come. I think Epstein pretty much knew what the market was for Crisp and
determined this was his best deal.
目前的市場而言，要找到被球團長約綁住的優秀中繼是極為困難的。我相信席歐十分瞭解
李玟在市場的價值在哪，而他也做出了最佳的選擇。
