The trade was first reported by CSNPhilly.com. It's unclear whether Thompson is coming to join Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg or reporting to Triple-A Durham. Thompson, 33, was hitting .307 this season for the Phillies Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh. He has batted .276 in five years with Philadelphia at the Triple-A level. Thompson, a left-handed hitter, has played in six big-league games, all with the Royals in 2004.
