[情報] Rangers, Cruz Nearing Two-Year Deal
SS Elvis Andrus may not be the only Ranger to get a multi-year contract this
week. According to a major league source, the club is close with OF Nelson
Cruz on a two-year deal that would eliminate his scheduled arbitration
hearing next week.
The 2-year deal with Cruz, who is seeking $7.5 million via arbitration, would
allow the Rangers to avoid an arbitration hearing with him again next winter.
The Rangers offered Cruz $5.5 million this year, making the midpoint between
the two offers $6.5 million. With a signing bonus, Andrus received the exact
midpoint ($3.125 million) for 2012.
A comparable player for Cruz might be San Diego's Carlos Quentin, who went
from $3.6 million in his first year of salary arbitration to $5.05 million in
2011 and $7.025 million for 2012. Cruz made $3.6 million last year and, if
the two-year deal is consummated, would likely go to about $6 million or $6.5
million for 2012. Given the incremental difference in salaries at similar
stages, it would seem Cruz would get about $1-1.5 million more than Quentin
for his final year of arbitration. That would bring the total package to
somewhere between $14-15 million.
