That goal: Do something that helps the team win. "The model in our division is the Angels," Hurdle said. "The quality of their at-bats, the aggressiveness on the basepaths, the selflessness of the offense -- those are the kinds of things you are talking about. If you want to take down an incumbent, you've got to do the job better than the incumbent. Spring Focus: The Rangers aim to instill in their hitters a team-first mentality, stressing quality at-bats every time up. If the club determines it wants LHP C.J. Wilson in the rotation, then there will be repercussions in the back half of the bullpen. The first four spots are set, but the fifth figures to be a wide-open competition among Holland, LHP Matt Harrison and RHP Brandon McCarthy. If they stay put, the Rangers have a strong back end, providing Feliz shows some ability to pitch on back-to-back days. There are two unsettled long/middle relief spots. Ray, acquired from Baltimore in the Kevin Millwood trade, has the inside track, but the Rangers also could consider Rule 5 acquisition LHP Ben Snyder. Nippert has shown the ability to pitch as a long man and a swing man for emergency starts and is out of options.
