Radioheading Into The Studio
(But Probably Not As Soon As The BBC Would Have You Think)
Ah BBC, so wily with their broadcasting of British communications all the
time. After Radiohead's interview with 6 Music, bbc.co.uk ran a madly
re-blogged article subtitled: "The band tell 6 Music about their plans to
finish another new record." That's fair, they do talk about that. But about
this large-fonted pullquote:
"We've finished the main bulk of it and we're off to Japan in a couple of
weeks to finish it off." Colin Greenwood
Objection: misleading the internet. The "it" they've finished the "main bulk
of," and they're "off to Japan in a couple of weeks to finish," is very
likely not an album, but their current tour. See? The final dates for this
year are in Japan, in a couple of weeks. Fire your pullquote editor on
contextual grounds. (Or, give your pullquote editor a raise. Congrats on the
traffic!) That said, the band clearly have their minds on an In Rainbows
followup. Said RadioEd:
We're still talking about doing some stuff and we're really excited about
it. First we came off tour to do some writing and we wanted to just carry on
doing it because it was so brilliant.
So they're still talking about it, which is good news. And they want to carry
on doing it, which is brilliant. As Radiohead's said repeatedly, this next
one's pricing probably will not be up to you, no really, and it also probably
won't win the Mercury Prize (again). However, it definitely will be good
traffic for everyone, with or without the misleading pullquotes.
