A recent item in the New York Post had Utah Jazz power forward Carlos Boozer
telling friends he's going to the Pistons or the Nets, and that created a stir
in Salt Lake City.
But in a television appearance Monday on ESPN, the potential free agent
indicated no final decisions have been made and he is open to returning to Utah.
"I mean, obviously I put the ball in their court," Boozer told Jim Rome. "You
know, I told them I wanted to be there -- and we'll see how they respond and
how they approach me."
Boozer is under contract to the Jazz for one more season at just more than
$12.6 million but can opt out and become a free agent. He has until June 30 to
inform the Jazz and remains subject to being traded.
He was asked if he might re-sign with the Jazz even if he opts out: "Definitely
possible. But again, that's up to them. You know, I think I let everybody know
that I wanted to be there -- and, at the same time, for me, let's see how they
approach me, and then do what's best for me and my family."
The Jazz also has decisions to make on Boozer's frontcourt teammates. Power
forward Paul Millsap is a restricted free agent and is due for a big raise
based on his performance.
Former Piston Mehmet Okur, like Boozer, has a player option for next season, so
the Jazz may be in a situation of trying to decide where it will spend its
money.
