Hornets not afraid of cap, but they still could unload BY VINCE ELLIS FREE ‧ PRESS SPORTS WRITER ‧ May 9, 2009 http://0rz.tw/MOlcx Hornets president Hugh Weber told the New Orleans media Thursday the team was on solid financial ground and wasn't necessarily going to avoid the league's luxury tax if it meant breaking up a young and talented team. 黃蜂的總裁Hugh Weber說財務狀況無虞，不會因此而拆散這支年輕、有淺力的球隊。 With the Pistons expected to be around $20 million under the salary cap when free agency starts July 1, the franchise should be in good position to take advantage of fire sales as teams look to shed salaries during these dire economic times. Speculation centers on the Hornets, who currently have around $76 million in salary commitments for next season. The salary cap is expected to drop to around $57 million next season because of the economy, but more important, the luxury tax threshold is expected to fall to $68 million, which kicks in a penalty for every dollar over the threshold. So to avoid paying the tax, it would appear that two of the team's better big men, David West and Tyson Chandler, would be prime candidates to be moved. 為了畢免豪華稅黃蜂仍有可能搬出West與Chandler兩隻肉棒兜售。 Hornets executive Chad Shinn backed up Weber by saying that trading 6-foot-9 All-Star power forward West was "very unlikely." West will make $9 million next season and has three seasons left on his contract.
