The Padres and pitching coach Darren Balsley, whose staff led the National
League in ERA this year, have hit a few snags in contractual negotiations.
The club has agreed to terms with bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds, but a
proposal and counterproposal between the club and Balsley haven't resulted in
a deal.
投手教練Darren Balsley，今年全隊在ERA上面領先全國聯，在合約交涉上有點麻煩。
隊上同意跟牛棚教練Darrel Akerfelds任期，但是建議跟反對聲浪在隊上漫延，且Balsley
也沒正面回應。
Balsley, whose contract expired on Tuesday, said he is confident a deal will
get done. "I hope this happens as soon as possible," Balsley said from his home
in Tennessee.

Tim Wallach, the fifth managerial candidate to interview with the Padres, said
he enjoyed Saturday's meeting with Towers and three other Padres officials.
It was the first time that Wallach had interviewed for a major league
managerial job."They made it comfortable,"Wallach said.

Wallach, 49, is a former third baseman who played 17 seasons in the majors,
winning five All-Star berths and three Gold Gloves and hitting 260 home runs.
He managed the Angels' high-Single-A club in 2001. He was the Dodgers' hitting
coach in 2004-05, parting ways with the club after manager Jim Tracy was fired
after the 2005 season.

This week, the Padres are expected to bid for the negotiating rights to
Japanese third baseman Akinori Iwamura, who today will be posted by the
Yakult Swallows. Towers has said the Padres will be "very aggressive"in
pursuit of Japanese talent this offseason, and Iwamura is believed to head
their list.
這禮拜，教士希望能跟日本隊的三壘手岩村明憲談談，今天在養樂多燕子上被公佈出來
，Towers說教士會"非常積極的"跟日本方面交涉，岩村是他們第一的選擇。
