[News]Hoffman named NL Fireman of the Year
It has been another season full of awards for Padres closer Trevor Hoffman, and
deservedly so. Hoffman now stands alone as the all-time saves leader in Major
League history. Due to another tremendous season by the 38-year-old, his
colleagues, 296 of them from the National League, voted Hoffman as the The
Sporting News' National League Fireman of the Year, an award based on saves
and wins in 2006.
這榮譽再度被Padres的終結者Trevor Hoffman得到，當然這是他應得的。現在的Hoffman

Of the Padres' 88 wins this season -- needing every one of them to take the NL
West title by tiebreaker over the Dodgers -- Hoffman closed the door on 46 of
them, the second-most saves he's recorded in his 13-year career. He led the
National League in saves, and he trailed the American League leader, Francisco
Rodriguez, by just one. The Angels closer won the AL Fireman of the Year Award.

Hoffman only blew five save opportunities all season, three of those coming in
July. That means that out of the other five months of the regular season,
Hoffman was unable to convert only two other save opportunities.

It was yet another season of remarkable consistency for Hoffman, but even more
impressive was that he seemed to get better as the season wore on, despite the

He converted 17 of 18 saves, including 10 of 11 in September, over the last two
months of the season. The division race remained heated until the last day of
the season, when he earned his 46th save.

Hoffman also had a stretch of five saves in seven games, which included the
final two regular-season home games, where his saves led to a sweep of the
Pirates. Hoffman tied Lee Smith for the all-time saves record of 478 on Sept.
23, the first of those two home games.

and set the Bucs down in order to take his place atop the all-time saves list.
