At its simplest, there is a time in a game when the ball comes off the rim,
and the Suns either will have a chance to score or be put on the defense.

desperately needed consistent rebounder for what remains the NBA's
third-worst rebounding team.

The improvement has much to do with the knack and passion Gortat has for
rebounding. In the past 17 games he averaged 10.1 rebounds, and the Suns won

"You just go get it," Gortat said of rebounds. "Everything's going to come
out of your heart. As hard as you want to get those rebounds, you're going to
get them. You can't be static under the basket. You have to be mobile. You
have to watch the way the ball is going to the basket. First off, you've got
to box out. You need to have good timing and positioning. I believe I learned
a lot from (former Orlando teammate) Dwight (Howard), and I have this feeling
for the rebounds. Sometimes you just have to outwork your opponent. Sometimes
you have to use your physicality to hit or push somebody."

Gortat had six career double-doubles in 3 1/2 seasons with Orlando but has 10
in the past 17 games, giving him the league lead among reserves. In those 17
games, he has averaged 13.3 points and 10.1 rebounds with 59 percent shooting
from the field and 84 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Newly acquired guard Aaron Brooks joined the Suns in Indianapolis. Ex-Suns
guard Goran Dragic could not participate in Houston's game-day shootaround
Saturday morning because the Suns still were checking into Brooks' left
ankle, which suffered a second-degree sprain in November. He averaged 23
minutes this month. Phoenix finalized the trade Saturday afternoon.
