The players had asked for more of a defensive emphasis but resisted a half-court style based on the Detroit Pistons offense that did not fit the personnel, particularly Steve Nash. The players had asked for a firmer way but did not like how old-school Porter went on them. To this day, no Suns player has spoken on behalf of Porter.
