Coach Stan Van Gundy and General Manager Otis Smith met Thursday before the
Magic's practice. The topic, in a nutshell:
Dealing with changes that are good for the team … but not so good for
players involved.
大范和Otis在星期三魔術隊練習之前會談:
交易帶來的改變對球隊是好的，但是對牽連其中的球員就不太好了。
Their meeting came in the wake of small forward Mickael Pietrus' shouting
match with Van Gundy near the bench on Wednesday night.
會談的緣由是在禮拜三對灰狼的比賽中，Pietrus在板凳區跟大范互相咆哮。
Frustrated with his dwindling role, Pietrus was pulled out of the game by Van
Gundy after just three minutes into the final period during the Magic's
blow-out victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Amway Center.
Pietrus在魔術大勝灰狼的那場比賽，僅在最後時期上場了三分鐘，就被大范換下場，
對自己逐漸邊緣化的角色感到挫敗。
Teammates, including co-captain Dwight Howard, tried to calm Pietrus. One
player said that MP wanted to be traded if he's not playing regularly,
although MP told me he didn't want to leave a contender.
隊友們包括魔獸都嘗試去安撫Pietrus，有一個球員說Pietrus如果沒有每場獲得一定
的上場時間的話會想要被交易，雖然Pietrus告訴我他並不想離開一個能競爭總冠軍的

Van Gundy and Pietrus both confirmed Thursday to the Sentinel that they
exchanged words.
大范和Pietrus在星期四對媒體證實他們互相交流了一些想法。
"MP was unhappy about when he went into the game and he was unhappy about me
telling him to play defense," Van Gundy said. "He didn't like what I was
saying and I didn't like his response, so I took him out of the game."
大范:"Pietrus對於他上場的時機很不爽，也不爽我跟他說他要防守，他不爽我說的話，
我也不爽他的回應，所以我把他換下場。"
After Van Gundy announced in camp that he would be tinkering — using bigger
lineups with postseason matchups in mind — this was bound to happen.

The experimenting at power forward causes chain reactions felt at small
forward — Pietrus' position.

Van Gundy already had a sit-down with power forward Ryan Anderson. Anderson
expressed his displeasure after seeing Brandon Bass move past him in the
rotation.

Next game — or next week — it might be another player or two grumbling as
Stan carries out his plan.

"It's going to be a tough thing for a few of our guys. The good part is we
have a flexibility to play different situations, but to do that, somebody has
to pay every night," Van Gundy said.
"I guess, as we go along, we'll see who can handle it and produce. I don't
mind if they are pissed off with me, but I don't want it translating to their
teammates. I need them to stay together as a group."

This is the critical part — players making sacrifices for the greater good.

Players and coaches squabbling over playing time is nothing new in the NBA —
or in Orlando. Bass was upset last season, J.J. Redick the season before
that.
球員和教練爭吵上場時間，這在NBA不是什麼新鮮事 — 或是在魔術。
Bass在上個球季很沮喪，而JJ在上上球季如是。
Van Gundy said "it's not personal" and he admires MP, a sweetheart of a guy
and a fierce competitor. Then again, Pietrus, in his third season with the
Magic, always has had a meaty role.
大范:"這無關個人。" 而他稱讚Pietrus，有著細膩的心同時也是個強烈的競爭者。
而Pietrus在魔術的第三季總是擁有豐富的角色定位。
Pietrus concedes he is frustrated, but meant no disrespect to Van Gundy.
"I'm a very competitive guy. What I miss the most is being out there," he
said. "It's not playing time; it's getting back that adrenalin that I need.
It's hard for me not to have that.
"It's why I'm so frustrated. … I respect Stan. Of course. He's like part of
my family."
Pietrus承認他很挫敗，但這不表示他對大范有任何不尊重。
Pietrus:"我是個競爭性非常強的人，而我最在意的就是那個。不是上場時間，而是
找回我所需要的亢奮、激情。對我來說沒有那樣東西很難受。

The irony is that Van Gundy started Anderson at power forward against the
T-Wolves, liking his match-up against Kevin Love.
諷刺的是大范用小安做為先發大前鋒去對抗灰狼，讓他跟Kevin Love作為對手。
The trickle-down forced Rashard Lewis to vacate the power-forward spot and
start at small forward. That sent small forward Quentin Richardson to the
bench and buried Pietrus — Richardson's backup — behind Q-Rich and Lewis.
兩千萬被要求空出大前鋒的位置而做為小前鋒。這讓阿Q坐到板凳上而Pietrus變為
阿Q的後備 — 排在兩千萬和阿Q後面。
Van Gundy didn't put Pietrus into the game until the start of the final
quarter, with the Magic ahead by 39. MP was irritated with mop-up minutes
after playing 12 minutes in the rout of Washington. Van Gundy then benched
Pietrus after their tiff, replacing him with Redick.
大范沒在第四節之前讓Pietrus上場，在魔術領先39分之時。Pietrus在對巫師的比賽中
上場12分鐘後對於只能垃圾時間上場感到惱怒，大范在口角之後，讓JJ替換他上場。
MP pledged to remain professional and wait his turn on arguably the league's
deepest team.

"That's what makes it tough, when there are so many players who can play,"
Pietrus said. "All of us bring a lot to the table, but you don't have a lot
of space on the table to put everybody's dishes."

到桌上，但是桌子上沒有那麼多空間去擺每個人的盤子。"
For the Magic, it's all about whether players keep from breaking the fine
china over Van Gundy's head.
