Move over, Dr. Phil. Meet Dr. Dave.
Dave Schmidt, that is. The Baltimore Orioles' pitching coordinator has been
spending much of his time at the club's instructional league camp in Sarasota
working with the organization's top pitching prospects, not so much on
mechanics but on the mental side of the game.
在金鶯負責協助投手調整姿勢的Dave Shmidt花了不少時間在Sarasota的秋訓營的新秀身

Two of the players under his tutelage this fall have been right-handers Pedro
Beato and Brandon Erbe.

Beato, the club's supplemental first-round pick in 2006, was 7-8 with a 4.05
ERA in 27 starts for Class A Delmarva in his first full season, striking out
106 batters in 142 1/3 innings, so it's clearly not a matter of needing more
innings.
Beato是在2006第一輪的三明治選秀(第32順位)被金鶯選上，第一個完整球季中在1A的

Erbe, the Orioles' third-round pick in 2005, spent the summer at Class A
Advanced Frederick, where he was 6-8 with a 6.26 ERA in 25 starts, striking
out 111 in 119 1/3 innings before finishing up the season on the DL.
Erbe是金鶯在2005第三輪選進的，在他因為進入DL結束球季之前，整個夏天都留在A+
的Frederick，在那邊的25次先發留下了6勝8敗，ERA 6.26，119又1/3局中送出了111
次三振。
Both are very highly regarded but both are also young -- Beato is 20, Erbe 19
-- and what they need this fall more than anything else are the lessons that
Schmidt is teaching them.
兩個人都是受到高度關注，但是也都很年輕－－Beate 20歲，Erbe 19歲－－而他們在
最需要的東西就是Schmidt正在教的課程。
For Beato, the key is simplification.
對Beato來說，重點其實很單純。
"He has confidence in about eight different pitches and we'd like to work on
narrowing it down and concentrating on command of certain pitches," said farm
director David Stockstill, only slightly exaggerating when he spoke of
Beato's arsenal of pitches. "He's spending a lot of time with Dave Schmidt
talking about situations. He'll be at the games, not pitching but mentally
going through the process. He pitched plenty this summer, so this is more of
a learning process. He has a super attitude, an outstanding arm and works
very hard."
"他對八種不同的球路都很有信心，我們比較希望他專注一點，專心把其中幾種球路掌
握好。"農場總管David Stockstill說著，他對Beato的武器球只形容得稍微誇大一點。
"他花了很多時間在跟Dave Schmidt討論整個情況，他會來比賽，不過不是投球，而是

Erbe, though pitching fewer innings this year than Beato, was also in camp
for more refinement and the mental boot-camp experience.
至於Erbe，他今年投的局數比Beato少一點，也在秋訓營中作更多的改進以及增加一些
集訓的經驗。
"He's not going to pitch much either," Stockstill said. "He's here to work on
smoothing up his delivery and to work on his confidence factor, on competing
professionally every five days."
"他今年也投得不多。"Stockstill說。"他在這是為了讓投球更流暢，以及建立一些信
心，來面對每五天一次的職業競爭。"
