Jacoby Ellsbury, who replaced Crisp in center the past two nights, left in the fifth inning with cramps in his right calf. Ellsbury also took two foul balls off his legs in the first. ... David Ortiz collected his 51st double in the first inning, moving him into a tie for fourth on the Red Sox single-season list, two behind Tris Speaker in 1912. Earl Webb holds the team record with 67 in 1931. ... Kevin Youkilis, who had soreness in his bruised right wrist Wednesday, did not start. He struck out with the bases loaded as a pinch hitter to end the game. ... Johnny Pesky celebrated his 88th birthday. He threw out the first pitch and blew out a candle on a cake with the Red Sox logo behind home plate.
