Yankees put Joba Chamberlain on the DL with an oblique strain, and other
injury updates
The Yankees announced today that they have placed Joba Chamberlain on the
disabled list after he suffered a strained oblique while warming up Tuesday.
No word yet on whom they’ll call up to replace Joba, but Brian Cashman later
told reporters that it won’t be either Clay Rapada or Chien-Ming Wang. Since
the Yankees don’t play tonight they don’t have to make an official move
until tomorrow.
Oblique injuries can be tricky. The Yankees have called it mild and it sounds
like he could be back when the 15-days are up, but if you remember back to
last season David Robertson had one that lingered for a while and even once
he came back he wasn’t 100 percent for quite some time. For all of the times
Joba has been hurt, he’s always bounced back quickly so hopefully this will
be another example of that.
After an initial rough few appearances to start the season, Joba has had a
0.00 ERA, struck out three, but walked none over 6.2 innings. A small
stretch, but a good one where he located a lively fastball and featured a
good curveball.
‧ It sounds like the Yankees will be without both of their setup men for the
next few days as David Robertson is day-to-day with a hamstring issue. No DL
for him which is good though. He had a MRI which came back clean.
‧ Michael Pineda has begun pitching in extended spring training games. That
doesn’t start his 30-day rehab clock though. Brian Cashman told reporters
that he pitched in the 93-95 mph range, a great sign.
‧ Brian Cashman said that Alex Rodriguez will begin baseball activities on
May 6 for the first time since his hip surgery. Up to this point he’s been
limited to running on a treadmill.
‧ Mark Teixeira has finally begun hitting in the batting cages. The Yankees,
thankfully, are taking his rehab very slowly to avoid a setback. It seems
doubtful that he’ll be back before June.
‧ Curtis Granderson is playing in extended spring training games. Rain cut
his day short, but at least he got two at bats in. It sounds like he’ll
definitely be back before June. Just not sure how soon yet.
‧ Chien-Ming Wang could have opted-out of his contract with the Yankees
yesterday because they didn’t put him on the major league roster, but he
choose to stay with the team. That’s a great sign. It’s too early to get
excited by his progress, but if he keeps it up they will eventually be forced
to use him. There is likely another opt-out date in his contract, but we don’
t know when exactly that will be.
‧ Jose Campos told reporters that what he was dealing with last year was a
small fracture in his elbow. He admits that he is not at 100 percent yet
either which is actually a good sign considering his poor results so far this
season.
‧ Minor league outfielder Thomas Neal, out with a hamstring injury, has
begun to take batting practice. It would be nice to have another non-Ben
Francisco option.
Joba 斜肌拉傷 (oblique strain 不知道有沒有翻對)進DL, 預計15天滿就可以回來了
目前還沒決定叫誰上來, 但 Cashman 說不會是 Clay Rapada, Chien-Ming Wang
(會不會是 Mark Montgomery? 目前 3A: 12 IP, 17 SO, 5 BB, 1.50 ERA, 1 WHIP)
其他傷兵上面那篇有提到, 他這篇還有說 Jose Campos 認為去年只是手肘上的小傷
但他目前還沒回復 100% 狀態 (A成績: 15 IP, 16 SO, 6 BB, ERA 6.00)
