Yankees consider moving Grandy to LF
Yankees consider moving Granderson to LF, with Gardner in CF
http://tinyurl.com/a23sz6a
Curtis Granderson might not be the Yankees center fielder next year.
He could be in left field, instead.
Grandy
The Yankees are considering an outfield switch that would see Brett Gardner
in center, with Granderson moving to a corner spot, sources say. While they
believe they have two capable center fielders, Gardner is clearly the better
defensive player.
If both Granderson and Gardner are going to play every day -- and it appears
they will -- it could make sense for Gardner to take over in center.
Granderson hasn't played anywhere but center field since 2007, when he made
two late-inning appearances for the Tigers in left field (with Cameron Maybin
in center). He started two games in left in 2005, when he was just beginning
to establish himself as a major league player.
(Cameron Maybin
While Granderson struggled offensively at the plate in the postseason
(3-for-30, with one home run and 16 strikeouts), the Yankees seem to have
more concerns about his defense than his offense. Granderson's batting
average slipped to .232 and his strikeouts soared to a career-high 195 this
year, but his 43 home runs were tied for second in the majors, just one
behind his ex-teammate Miguel Cabrera, who won the Triple Crown.
Gardner missed most of the 2012 season with an elbow injury that required
surgery. He shared the center field job with Melky Cabrera in 2009, then
moved to left field the following year after the Yankees traded for
Granderson.
