[農場] Yankees Top 10 Prospects: 7~10
Written by: Robert M. Pimpsner on 5th January 2010
10. Ivan Nova – Ivan Nova is a guy that Yankees fans could see sometime soon
in the Bronx. The young right hander signed on July 15, 2004 as an
International Free Agent and then made his United States debut in 2006 with
the Gulf Coast Yankees. In the Gulf Coast League he was 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA
in 10 games, 5 starts, striking out 36 in 43 innings. His success as a 19
year old in 2006 earned him a promotion to the Charleston RiverDogs in 2007
where he was 6-8 with a 4.98ERA in a shortened season. He struggled again in
2008 with the Tampa Yankees going 8-13 with a 4.36 ERA in 26 games.
Nova’s struggles lead to him being left unprotected in the Rule-V draft and
was selected by the San Diego Padres who returned him during spring training.
The Yankees sent him to the Double-A Trenton Thunder to open the season where
he had a return to the success he once had in the Gulf Coast League. In 12
starts he had a 5-4 record with a 2.36 ERA for the Thunder before being
promoted to Triple-A where he struggled somewhat again. Nova was 1-4 for the
Scranton Yankees with a 5.10 ERA in 12 starts.
Ivan Nova is a guy that Yankees fans will likely see at some point during the
2010 season either out of the bullpen or as a spot starter. He has a low 90s
fastball that will occasionally go into the mid 90s along with a plus
curveball and changeup. Nova earned praise from his pitching coach about his
attitude on the mound and he is a guy that needs to work on his command to be
more successful.
2010 Prediction: Triple-A – Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
9. Jeremy Bleich – Selected in the supplemental round of the 2008 First-Year
Player Draft the left-handed pitching Jeremy Bleich made his professional
debut pitching 3 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out
4 for the Staten Island Yankees in September of that season. He followed up
that lone start in the regular season with a great performance out of the
bullpen in the postseason where he pitched 4 innings allowing 2 hits and
striking out 4 before going to the Hawaii Winter Baseball league where he
went 3-2 with a 1.77ERA in 7 starts, he struck out 33 in 35.2 innings.
Jeremy Bleich began his first full professional season with the Tampa Yankees
where he was 6-4 with a 3.40ERA striking out 56 in 79.1 innings throughout 14
starts. He then earned himself a promotion to Double-A Trenton where he
struggled with a 3-6 record and a 6.65 ERA in 13 starts, striking out 60 in
65 innings.
Bleich sits in the low 90s with his fastball but has touched 94 during the
season. He also poses a curveball and changeup which could be considered
average right now. He is a lock to start the 2010 season with the Trenton
Thunder and could also be moved to the bullpen if the Yankees needed.
2010 Prediction: Double-A – Trenton Thunder
Tomorrow we will take a look at left-handed pitcher Wilkin DeLaRosa and the
tall right-handed Andrew Brackman.

8. Wilkins DeLaRosa – Originally signed as a right fielder with a killer
arm DeLaRosa’s bat was not able to come around and the Yankees moved him to
the mound in 2007. In the Gulf Coast Laegue he was 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA in 12
relief appearances in his first season as a pitcher. In 2008 he split
between the bullpen and the rotation for the Charleston RiverDogs and the
Tampa Yankees. Between the two he was 9-4 with a 2.11 ERA with 125
strikeouts in 106.2 innings throughout 32 games, 11 starts.
The 2009 season saw DeLaRosa starting the season in the rotation of the Tampa
Yankees. He was promoted to the Trenton Thunder after going 1-0 with a
1.29ERA in 3 games with Tampa. With the Thunder he appeared in just 16
games, all of them starts, throwing 82.2 innings and earning a 4-5 record
with a 3.48 ERA in the process. His season was cut short to just 96.2
innings due to injury and struck out 94 batters.
The Yankees believe that De La Rosa does have the stuff to be a starter but
he could find himself moving to the bullpen to provide some relief. If he
does move to the bullpen Yankees fans could see him at some point in 2010.
As a player that was converted to pitcher he has had less time to develop
then others but has stepped up to have success in the minors. De La Rosa
posses 3 pitches including a fastball that can get up to 96MPH but usually
sits more in the low 90s, a curveball and a changeup. He is likely to start
the season in Double-A again as a member of the rotation but could earn
himself a promotion to Scranton if he has the same success he has had in the
past.
2010 Prediction: Double-A – Trenton Thunder
7. Andrew Brackman – As a former two-sport athlete in college the towering
Andrew Brackman never has been through the regular off-season training
routine that typical pitchers went through, in addition sitting out a season
due to Tommy John surgery he did not have his best stuff in 2009, but the
Yankees still liked what they saw from his development. Ending the season
striking out 9 in 10 shutout innings in 4 appearances showed that the tall
right-handed pitcher might be beginning to come together. Overall his season
was one of ups and downs, flashes of the reason why the Yankees drafted him
showed however the expected struggles caused him to end the season with a
2-12 record and a 5.91 ERA.
Possessing a fastball, knuckle curveball and a changeup the big Andrew
Brackman could be a future front of the rotation start if he is able to
figure things out. As an amateur he was touching triple-digits with his
fastball but in his first professional season he was more in the 94-96 range.
As with all tall pitchers the key to his success will be if he could repeat
his delivery and he will have the chance to work on that in Tampa with fellow
tall right-hander Dellin Betances.
2010 Prediction: Class-A Advanced – Tampa Yankees
Tomorrow we will take a look at catcher John R Murphy and right-handed
pitcher Zach McAllister.
