[新聞] Crew chief addresses disputed tag on Jeter

Hirschbeck elaborates on call that led to Girardi's ejection

Umpire crew chief John Hirschbeck addressed a disputed call Tuesday night, a
day after a close play at third base left the New York Yankees steamed, The
Associated Press reported.
In the first inning of Monday's game between New York and Toronto at Yankee
Stadium, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was called out trying to steal third
by ump Marty Foster. The throw beat Jeter, but the shortstop claimed he
reached the bag before he was tagged by Blue Jays third baseman Scott Rolen.
"I was told by the umpire that I didn't have to be tagged to be out," Jeter
said after the Blue Jays' 6-5 victory.
Hirschbeck spoke to Foster on Tuesday and said Foster told Jeter at the time,
"The ball beat you, and I had him tagging you."
"I don't see a problem with that," Hirschbeck told The AP. "Sometimes when
tempers flare, you don't hear everything that's said."
Yankees manager Joe Girardi joined Jeter in argument after the play and was
eventually ejected. However, Hirschbeck said Girardi was tossed for
complaining about a call from Sunday, the report said.
Major League Baseball umpire supervisor Jim McKean visited with the umpire
crew before Monday's game at Yankee Stadium and Tuesday night's game at Citi
Field between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Hirschbeck did not let Foster speak with reporters after the games Monday or
Tuesday, according to The AP.
