Jeter joins Bombers' spring fling February 4, 2009 http://tinyurl.com/d8qrn3 Another day at the Yankees' minor-league complex and several position players showed up to hit, run and throw, including Derek Jeter, Brett Gardner and Jorge Posada. Posada continued his throwing program for his recovering shoulder and all three hit on one of the immaculate fields there. It was nice to smell freshly-mown grass again, frankly. The sun was shining brightly, the sky was crystal blue. The only annoying weather factor was a chilly wind, but it's not much to complain about considering everything else. That, clearly, will be a big part of his game if he is a regular player. Asked if he thought other countries took the tournament more seriously than the US, Jeter replied: "I wouldn't necessarily say they took it more seriously. I think they were better prepared and what I mean by that is that they are playing throughout this whole time in winter leagues, the Carribean World Series, the Cuban team playing, Japanese teams playing earlier. I'm not saying it's an excuse, but I would say it would swing more toward that than that we didn't take it seriously. We just didn't play well enough."
