[新聞] Yankees, Andy Pettitte play slow pitch

The Yankees haven't slammed the door on a potential reunion with
Andy Pettitte, the respected veteran lefty. But, GM Brian Cashman said,
"Things are more complicated now."
What exactly is more complicated isn't clear - Cashman wouldn't be
specific. What is clear is that Pettitte has rejected a one-year,
$10million offer from the Yankees and the Bombers haven't budged from
their desire for the southpaw to take a huge pay cut from the $16 million
he earned last season.
"The best way to characterize it is that he hasn't accepted anything
we've proposed and we haven't accepted anything they've proposed," Cashman
said. "I talked to the Hendricks brothers (Pettitte's agents, on Monday).
If spring training started today, we're going with the kids."
"They were not happy with our offer; we were not happy with what they
wanted," added co-chairman Hal Steinbrenner. "There's still dialogue
going on.
"Anything is possible, all options. We're just going to continue to
look at things. We'll see where we end up in March."
If the Yankees don't re-sign Pettitte or begin earnest pursuit of another
big-name free agent starter, then their options to fill the open rotation
spot look like this: Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Alfredo Aceves and Phil Coke.
They have also signed 11-year vet Jason Johnson, who has pitched for eight
teams, to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Coke pitched very well in relief last season in the majors, but pitching
coach Dave Eiland called him at the start of the offseason to tell him to
prepare over the winter as if he were a starter, something the lefthander
has done his whole career. Hughes, the favorite in some Yankee executives'
eyes, and Kennedy had terrible seasons in 2008, but rebounded with strong
performances in winter ball.
Still, Pettitte remains in the Yankee mix. "Everyone knows what we think
of Andy, how special he is," Cashman said.
While Cashman is prepared to go with a competition for the remaining spot,
he said several times Tuesday, "Ultimately, though, spring training is not
upon us."
其實也沒什麼新意 看起來比之前說要砍offer的氣氛要和緩了些
Hal的話也沒說死
不過這件事看起來會拖上一陣子......
