Mets optioned RHP Joe Smith to 3A
Smith opened his major league career with 15 1/3 scoreless innings through
May 12, and he had still given up runs in just seven of his 46 apparances.
Sending him down seems like a definite overreaction, though it if was the
only way to give his arm a break, perhaps it will work out. Jon Adkins is
expected to replace him on the roster.
