The conductor of the band at the time, Col. Alan Bonner, told me that he wanted a major work for wind band. 第三交響曲係由華盛頓D.C.美國空軍樂隊委託創作。當時的指揮 Col. Alan Bonner 表示他想要一首寫給管樂團的作品。 He said that he didn't care about style, length, difficulty, or anything else -I was given complete freedom to write whatever I wanted to. I began to work on it in earnest at a very difficult time in my life, right after our baby daughter, Natalie, died. 他說他不介意曲子的形式、長度、難度或任何其他條件，我擁有全然的創作自由。我熱切的開始寫曲時，正處於人生中的一個低點--就在我的小女兒 Natalie 剛過世之時。 This symphony is the most emotionally draining work that I have ever composed. Three days after I completed this symphony, on June 25, 1994, our son Billy Barnes was born. 威尼斯樂派是在1530~1620年間起源於威尼斯他的特色是音響宏大、對比鮮明若大家聽了上面連結，可以發現他們會重複演奏兩個相同的片段但是兩次的音量大小是很不一樣的很像我們在第二主題當中看到的曲式模式威尼斯樂派後來流行於歐洲各處所以變成當時音樂類型的總稱他包含以下三種含義 1. 音樂流派：首創的雙重合唱、八聲部、十二聲部或更多聲部的大合唱而且在不同高度與位置上演唱，製造出燦爛輝煌的效果 2. 16、17世紀的歐洲音樂樂派，以威尼斯的教堂為活動中心這對後來歐洲樂器的形成和主調音樂的發展有很大的影響 3. 十七世紀歐洲歌劇樂派威尼斯樂派的仔細介紹 http://web.sjsmitaa.org/~lily/music/music4-4-1.htm 希望大家都能多去聽聽這個影片並在演奏第二主題時能有這樣的想像並去把握這個音樂的精神 -------------------- 老師還有提到關於柴五和馬勒一馬一 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQFjDBFXN58
