一至四題(各25分)擇其三，第五題必答，第六題自由選答。
一、古代Babylonia、Assyria與Persia在政權擴張與鞏固上，有何相似或一脈相傳
的觀念與政策？
二、古埃及文明的特性為何？這些特性在埃及立國兩千餘年中(c.2800~500BC)有何
改變？請舉實例論證之。
三、古印度的宗教發展及信仰觀念與西方(近東地區)的宗教信仰有何異同？此種異
同所展現的東方文明性質為何？
四、上古的藝術有何特性？請舉古代Mesopotamia,Egypt,Persia與India的藝數為例
論證之。
五、請將下文中譯，然後加以補充和申論(四選三)。
1. Hammurabis code was not entirely indifferent to the notion of
justice...Abstract ethical principles are embedded in the code in
certain instances...And the state is called upon occasionally to
provide social well-being rather than merely to judge and punish...
Hammurabi did wish to be known as "King of Justice"and by the
neasures of his time he was entirely that.
2. Originally the Osiris legend ceems to have been little more than a
nature myth. But in time t began to take on a deeper significance.
The human qualities of the deities concerned-the paternal solicitude
of Osiris for his subjects,the faithful devotion of his wife and
son-appealed to the emotions of average Egyptians,who were now able
to see their own tribulations and triumphs mirrored in the lives of
the gods.
3. In view of the fact that sin or sorrow in the world could not be
explained by reference to Ahura-Mazda,Zoroaster posited the exixtence
of a counter-deity,Ahriman,treacherous and malignant,who presided over
the forces of darkness and evil.In Zoroasters own view Ahura-Mazda
was vastly stronger than Ahrima,but the priests of Zoroaster gradually
came to emphasize the dualistic aspect of the founders thought.
4. The uncompromising idealism of the Upanishads, when viewed
superficially,may appear to be negative and pessimistic because it
repudiates the world of immediate human experience. In intent,
however,its message is positive and optimistic regarding human worth
and destiny...Every human is a legitimate heir to all the grandeir
of the cosmos.
