Dear all,
Because Ceiba has been very unstable lately (this is my second attempt at
this letter), I am sending you the discussion questions for "Roman Fever"
below so you can prepare your presentations without dealing with any server
problems.
Please also note that next Monday I will be wrapping up our reading of "Roman
Fever," ask you to give the presentations, and move on to the next section on
"narration and point of view."

Discuss the following questions in the assigned groups and prepare a 5-minute
oral report to be presented before the class. Remember to give textual
evidence along with your arguments when you can.
Group 1 -- Question 1 on p. 119;
Group 2 -- Q2 on p. 119;
Group 3 -- Q3 on p. 119;
Group 4 -- Suggestions for Writing no. 3 on p. 119;
Group 5 -- "Lay out the structure of the plot, according to the 5-part
pattern on p. 66. Take note of any disagreements you have and how you make
judgments."
Group 6 -- "Retell the story chronologically. What is gained and lost by
telling it this way?"
Group 7 -- "Compare Alida's ideas of love and marriage with those of Grace.
What are Wharton's ideas on this matter?"

The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks
