NEW ORLEANS -- There was plenty of speculation during the Super Bowl power
outage Sunday night that it was caused by the insane power used to
(literally) fire up the stage for Beyonce's halftime performance.
But the show, which drew rave reviews, didn't cause the power outage
according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
"There's no indication at all that this was caused by the halftime show,"
Goodell said Monday morning. "I know that's been out there. ... That is not
the case from anything we have at this point."
Goodell also said the power outage won't have any impact on future Super
Bowls in New Orleans. And to make sure everyone was on board with the idea
this wasn't Beyonce's fault, Goodell brought along an executive from the
Superdome power company.
The exec said they weren't even providing power to the Superdome during
Beyonce's appearance, and actually saw a dip in their grid levels.
"The halftime show, as the commissioner said, was running on 100 percent
generated power, which means it was not on our grid at all," he said. "In
fact, during the halftime show we had a drop in power."
So did the Ravens apparently -- up 28-6 at the time of the blackout, the
Ravens were lit up by the 49ers on both sides of the ball after the brief
hiatus.
Ultimately the pre-blackout lead held up. Which means the Ravens don't have
to worry about trying to blame Beyonce for losing a Super Bowl.
