About the speaker講者介紹
Ban Wang (王斑) received his Ph.D. from UCLA in1993 and is Professor of Chinese
Literature at Rutgers University. He is the author of The Sublime Figure of H
istory (Stanford UP, 1997), Illuminations from the Past (Stanford UP, 2004), N
arrative Perspective and Irony (Mellon, 2002), and History and Memory (in Chine
se; Oxford UP, 2004). He co-edited with Ann Kaplan Trauma and Cinema (Hong Kong
UP, 2004) and with Xueping Zhong The Image of China in the American Classroom
(Nanjing UP, 2005). He co-translated and edited (with Zhang Xudong [張旭東]) W
alter Benjamin’s Illuminations (啟迪Qidi; Oxford 1998). In 2000 he was the rec
ipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in 2
002 was a visiting professor in Asian Studies at Harvard University. He is also
the guest-editor of Concentric: Literary and Cultural Studies' s special issue on "Literature in the Age of Cultural Studies and Globalization" (July 2005)
