Wittman, whose hiring was announced Monday, is back in Minnesota for a third
stint after spending last season with the Orlando Magic. His duties this time
have not been defined yet, but he was brought back to offer counsel to Dwane
Casey. "I think as a head coach, you can get blinders on," Wittman said. "It
happened to me (in Cleveland). If you don't ever hear any other voices of
reason, of different ideas, you're going to continue down the same path, and
sometimes, it's not the right path."

The Celtics have pulled the plug on their assistant coaching merry-go-round,
opting for a smaller staff than last season. The team began last season with
seven assistants, but Kevin Eastman left during the year for a job with Nike.
Paul Pressey will move from the bench to Paul Cormier’s advance scout
position, though it’s likely Pressey would move on if he is offered a larger
role with another team. He had hopes along those lines with Dallas last
summer. Jim Brewer, Doc Rivers’ uncle, will handle some advance scouting out
west. 「We’ve got Tony (Brown) and Dave (Wohl) and Armond (Hill) and
Clifford (Ray),」 director of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. 「We’
ve got four assistant coaches. We don’t need any more. We’re fine. If there
comes a need, we’d do something, but we’re really all set. We have four
assistant coaches and two advance scouts, and that’s what we’re going to go
with right now.」

Cavs coach Mike Brown said Monday he'd consider adding an offensive-minded
coach to his staff, but it isn't a certainty. He also said that assistant
coaches Hank Egan, Mike Malone, Melvin Hunt and Kenny Natt would be asked
back. There has been some speculation around the team that Natt, a holdover
from Paul Silas' staff, might look for a position elsewhere
