Would it had made a difference in the outcome of the NBA Finals if we added Jrue Holiday and subtracted Tyler Herro from the team,? My thought is a hard no. I like Holiday and think he would fit in on our team nicely. But you do not trade a 20-year-old for a 30-year-old unless that player is a superstar (i.e., Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kawhi Leonard). We literally just went to the Finals with this roster and finished within two games of the trophy. I would like to take a page out of the San Antonio playbook and instead of building this team for the next three years, build it for the next decade, which means we don’t part with our young core, we add in free agency. After all, we just proved how this mix of veterans and younger players meshed so well. What I do know is that the ultimate NBA front-office skill is to know when to sell high. I appreciate that is somewhat apples-to-oranges, with the Spurs landing a young player in exchange. The irony is this whole Herro debate began amid rumors of possibly dangling him as a trade chip to attempt acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo by trade instead of through free agency. So while I hold Jrue Holiday in the utmost respect, I can also appreciate your point of developing youth. The greater question is whether Herro is off limits, amid the reality that to get something of quality you have to give something of quality. It remains me of going all-in with Caron Butler in the trade for Shaquille O’Neal.
