[情報] Miami Heat's Joel Anthony opts for free agency
Heat center Joel Anthony said Thursday he will become a free agent instead of
exercising the opt-in in his contract -- a move that would slightly increase
the Heat's salary-cap space unless the team extends him a qualifying offer.
Anthony was due to earn $885,120 next season if he had exercised the opt-in.
``I still want to come back to Miami,'' he said. ``They have shown interest,
but we just have to see how it works out.''
But for the Heat to retain the right to match any offer, it would need to
extend him a $1 million qualifying offer. And until Anthony accepted that
offer, he would count $1.16 million against the cap.
The Heat declined to say whether Anthony, 27, will be extended a qualifying
offer.
The 6-9 Anthony, signed by the Heat in 2007 as an undrafted free agent out of
UNLV, played in 80 games and started 16 last season, averaging 2.7 points,
3.1 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 16.5 minutes per game.
Anthony's decision to become a free agent leaves the Heat with just two
players under contract for next season -- Michael Beasley ($4.9 million) and
Mario Chalmers ($854,000). The Heat will buy out the last three years of
James Jones' contract unless it can find a taker in a trade by the June 30
deadline.
Jones' buyout would count $1.9 million against the cap next season and a
similar amount for the two seasons after that.
Counting Beasley, Chalmers and Jones' buyout number -- plus a $473,604 cap
hold for each of the other unfilled roster spots -- the Heat would have more
than $44 million in cap space entering free agency July 1.
Dwyane Wade, who is widely expected to re-sign with Miami, would receive
about $16.6 million of the $44 million in the first year of a six-year, $125
million contract.
BOSH SPEAKS
Toronto's Chris Bosh, expected to be the Heat's top power forward target in
free agency, offered few clues about his plans during a Thursday appearance
on ESPN Radio. ``I don't think anyone knows'' what will happen, he said.
``It's kind of scary, but it's an exciting time.''
Asked where LeBron James will sign, Bosh said, ``I honestly have no idea''
and added, ``You'd be kind of crazy not to want to play with a player like
that. . . . Am I waiting on LeBron? Pretty much. I think everyone has to.''
Speaking of the top free agents in general, he said, ``I don't think anyone
knows. I know Dwyane says he wants to be in Miami, but before he goes to
sleep at night, he has to think of different scenarios.''
Bosh said having a proven coach could play a factor in his decision. ``I
think a lot of guys want to play for a good coach . . . I want to compete for
a championship every year.'' Though many assume he will leave Toronto, Bosh
insisted, ``That's a place I'm going to be looking at.''
SERENADING WADE
Continuing its public efforts to convince Wade to re-sign, the Heat announced
that July 1-8 will be declared ``We Want Wade Week.''
Among the activities planned: Heat officials will join Miami-Dade County
commissioner Joe Martinez on July 1 as the county officially changes its name
to ``Miami-Wade County'' that week. .Wade's images also will be displayed on
the Heat's three-story-high video display affixed to the front of
AmericanAirlines Arena.
The Heat will ask Wade fans to write a message on his Facebook wall at 3:33
p.m. July 6. The full schedule of Wade events is available on heat.com.
