http://tinyurl.com/d42bdqa First off, Dirk Nowitzki on Thursday confirmed that he and his wife Jessica are expecting a baby this summer, but that isn’t the only news he’s anticipating. Nowitzki, who turns 35 in June and has one more season remaining on his Mavericks contract, reaffirmed that he fully expects to play in Dallas until he’s “38 or 39,” but added a significant qualifier. Listen up, Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson. It doesn’t sound like Nowitzki will tolerate any more 41-41 seasons like the one Dallas completed Wednesday night. “Honestly, I can’t see myself going anywhere else but here,” Nowitzki said. “Really, the pressure is on Mark and Donnie to get this franchise back to where it belongs. They know that. And then we’re all good; everything is fine. “I mean, I belong to this city. That’s just the bottom line. I could never see myself playing for another franchise, putting another jersey on. That would be probably the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my life. I want to stay here. “But I also want to play at a high level with a good team that we can be proud of and represent this city and this franchise.” Nowitzki said he had planned to be in Dallas most of the summer, anyway, in part to sit in the Mavericks’ “War Room” on draft night, and to help in free agent recruiting. But he said another reason he will only make a quick trip to Germany in June is “because we have a baby on the way. That’s one reason why I won’t be gone for three, four months this summer.” Nowitzki, who married Jessica Olsson last summer, declined to reveal the baby ’s sex or due date, adding with a smile, “Once I come back (for training camp) in October, it should be here.” Nowitzki, who just completed his 15th NBA season, certainly seems to be planning long-term where his career is concerned. He said he already has had an MRI on his left knee, as a precaution. He said the knee hasn’t given him any difficulties, but given that he had to have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in October, he wants to make sure the left one is sound. Nowitzki said he won’t know the results of that MRI until Friday. Also on Friday, he plans to have a follow-up examination, and probably X-rays, on his feet and ankles.
