Jason Terry's favorite number is 31, which he wears on his jersey.

It's also how many diamonds encircle the Mavericks' logo on their
championship ring, signifying the years the franchise was in existence before
winning its first title.
But there's a new number that Terry has targeted: $650,000.
That's how much the then-named Ron Artest (now Metta World Peace) raised for
charity by raffling off his championship ring last year.
Now, Terry is making a replica ring - valued at about $36,000 - available for
one lucky fan.
"It's a unique opportunity,'' Terry said today at the news conference
announcing the raffle. "It doesn't happen often. These fans, they were proud
of us. And everywhere we go, what do they ask you? They want to see that
ring. And one fans is going to definitely be able to say, hey, not only can
you see it, but I got it, and it's right here.''
The event is being run by NetRaffle.org in conjunction with Celebrities for
Charity. For $10, fans can get five raffle tickets. The more tickets that are
purchased by individuals, the more they are discounted.
The lucky winner will receive the ring, which has a 9-carat total weight and
contains 250 diamonds. The winner also will get two tickets to the
Mavericks-Lakers game on April 2, plus a travel allowance if they are from
outside the Dallas area.
"This is not something that's going to the highest bidder,'' said spokesman
David Thomson. "The success behind this is that every fan has a chance to win
this prize.''
The Jason Terry Foundation will be the recipient of donations and Terry said
proceeds will go to all of the foundation's endeavors, including coat drives,
turkey giveaways, the Daddy-Daughter ball that they put on each summer, plus
to defray expenses for his AAU girls' basketball team to go to China this
summer on a Basketball Without Borders type of trip.
By the way, Thomson said that the winner of the ring also will have no tax
obligations.
"One of the beauties of system is the taxes you would have to pay as an
individual are covered by the prize itself,'' he said. "You will not have to
pay any of the taxes.''
Said Terry: "I'm very competitive. I want to beat Ron Artest. We're hoping to
raise $600,000 to $800,000. Hopefully, with the support of Mav nation, we can
get it done.''
