Mavericks make it official with Sean Williams
The Mavericks have signed 6-10 Sean Williams and he'll go through his first
practice with the team on Thursday. They are getting their first day off of
training camp today.

Before Williams joins the Mavericks, he's expected to suit up tonight for the
Texas Legends in their D-League game against Los Angeles at Dr Pepper Arena
in Frisco.

Williams' contract is believed to be for two years, with the second year only
minimally guaranteed. His presence brings the Mavericks' roster to 14

Williams was originally the first round pick (17th overall) of the New Jersey
Nets in the 2007 NBA Draft. He spent three seasons in New Jersey and averaged

Born in Arlington, Williams was a standout at Mansfield High School and
attended Boston College. In his junior season at Boston College, Williams

record when he recorded 13 blocked shots against Duquesne. Williams decided
to forego his senior season and was an early entry candidate to the 2007 NBA
Draft.

Williams spent last season in the NBA D-League where he was an All-Star and
finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting. In 49 games (46
starts) with the Legends, Williams averaged 14.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.9
blocks per contest.

Sean Williams looked right at home for the Texas Legends Wednesday night.
Still to be answered is whether he'll be comfortable in a Mavericks uniform.
The 6-10 forward was active and made his first two shots, including a spot-up
jumper from the free-throw line.

Williams, as well as the players' association, had to agree for him to be
assigned to the D-League team in Frisco after he signed with the Mavericks on
Wednesday. Players with more than two years of experience must OK an
assignment to the NBDL.
Williams, entering his fourth NBA season, will return to the Mavericks for
practice on Thursday. They open the regular season Sunday against Miami.
Point guards Jerome Randle and Drew Neitzel also are in uniform for the
Legends, who are up 49-45 on the LA D-Fenders during second-quarter action.
