DENVER -- Dirk Nowitzki won't use his wrist as an excuse.
"No problems," he said after the loss to the Nuggets. "It feels
fine."
Nowitzki did ditch the athletic tape around his wrist for the
first time since jamming it in Monday's win over the Cavs. And he
hit 5-of-10 shots from the floor, a distinct improvement over his
9-of-24 shooting in the first two games.
But one of the best free-throw shooters in the NBA had two
critical misses from the line in the last few minutes, opening the
door for Denver to win at the buzzer.
Maybe we should take his word, however, that he's close to
completely healthy. He said the knee that sidelined him for nine
games in late Decemeber and January doesn't bother him at all.
Considering his hot streak before he hurt his wrist, that's easy
to believe. But he's averaging only 12.7 points in the last three
games, a bit more than half of season average. It might take a
20-point night or two before we're convinced about his wrist.
