Center Tyson Chandler , who finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for the injury-plagued Mavericks, shoots over Cleveland's Leon Powe in the first quarter. The LeBron James era seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. These days, the Cavaliers aren't very good at full strength. And when they're missing three of their top players, they are simply a mess – or a thing of beauty for a victory-starved team like the Mavericks. Shawn Marion returned to the lineup and DeShawn Stevenson and Tyson Chandler had strong nights to help the ailing Mavericks end their season-worst three-game losing streak with a 104-95 slap of the Cavaliers. Stevenson had a season-best 21 points, hitting 5-of-12 3-pointers, and Marion scored 22 points as he came back after missing Saturday's loss in Milwaukee with a thigh bruise. They also got 14 points and 14 rebounds from Chandler, who anchored the paint, and 18 points from Jason Terry, who had his best shooting game in more than a week. In short, it was the kind of effort and efficiency from all corners of the rotation that they are going to need without the injured Caron Butler and perhaps more games without Dirk Nowitzki. "We needed this win desperately," Chandler said. "We lose Caron. Shawn wasn't playing and he comes back and does a great job. We definitely needed to stop the bleeding." As Marion said: "We have to stay together. More than ever, just stay together." That attitude will be essential. The events of the last 24 hours – a losing streak that reached three and Butler's potentially serious right knee injury – left the Mavericks in a tough spot. The Cavaliers never led after the early going, and the Mavericks were up by as many as 17. "We got off to a good start, and this was a much-needed win," coach Rick Carlisle said. "With what happened with Caron last night, it's been tough. We had a lot of guys play well, which is what we need."
