Scouting the Mavericks
They haven't lost to the Pistons since 2007-08, winning the last four
meetings. They've won three in a row at AAC. ... Shawn Marion had his first
double-double of the season (12 points, 10 rebounds) on Saturday at Atlanta .
... The Mavericks average 96.2 points, well off last year's 102 points per
game. But coach Rick Carlisle said the disparity isn't a concern. "We know
defense is our ticket to being the kind of team we want to be," he said. "Our
defensive numbers are the best they've been since I've been here." They are
allowing just 92 points per game and opponents are shooting 43.5 percent.

5-3 since then and recently went 2-2 on the West Coast. ... There have been
reports of stress and confrontations between coach John Kuester and Tayshaun
Prince, although both said recently they have buried the hatchet. ... Rip
Hamilton was averaging just 12 points in his first 10 games, but broke out
with 27 on Sunday against Washington. ... Charlie Villanueva has been perhaps
their most consistent player, coming off the bench to average 15.2 points and
5.1 rebounds. ... The Pistons' corps of reserves is averaging 41 points,
third best in the NBA.

Report: Heat to sign former Mav Erick Dampier; Mavericks host Heat this
weekend
Erick Dampier, center for the Dallas Mavericks the last six years, is close
to joining the Miami Heat, according to a report by ESPN.com's Marc Stein and
Brian Windhorst.
The likely move will come on the heels of an injury to Miami's Udonis Haslem,
who went down with an injury last weekend and will be out a minimum of six
weeks. According to the report, the only thing holding up the signing is the
Heat deciding which member of their 15-man roster they'd release to make room
for Dampier, who is expected to sign a one-year deal for the league minimum.
The Mavericks traded Dampier in July as part of a deal to bring in Tyson
Chandler. Chandler has been a pleasant surprise for the Mavericks this
season, averaging over 8 points and 8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while
shooting 74% from the field.
Dampier hasn't played since being traded. The Bobcats released him for salary
cap purposes, and despite nearly signing with teams like the Houston Rockets,
Dampier has held out for a better situation. According to the report, Miami
is his "No. 1 choice."
It wouldn't talk long for a reunion between Dampier and his former team. The
8-4 Mavericks host the 8-5 Heat this Saturday in Dallas.
