Defensive Mavericks? That's just the way it is 防守的小牛?這樣就對了! Bruce Hornsby is a good friend of Rick Carlisle's and one of his songs should be the calling card of the Mavericks' defense. "That's just the way it is.'' And, if we can paraphrase the next line of the song: Some things had better change. Bruce Hornsby有首歌對於小牛的防守十分的貼切 "That's just the way it is"(這樣就對了) 或是另外一首歌"Some things had better change"(漸入佳境) (歌名有點不會翻="=) So far this season, they have changed. The Mavericks' defense has been darn good through nine games. They wouldn't be 7-2 without it and they wouldn't have been the first team to beat New Orleans this season without it. 這季目前為止小牛的防守做得相當好不但獲得7勝2敗的佳績還成為了第一支擊敗黃蜂的球隊 (黃蜂下一場好像還是會輸耶!!!) Asked if his team is beginning to like playing defense, Carlisle had an interesting response. 當被問到小牛隊是否愛上防守卡帥有個很有趣的回答 "If the answer is yes, then we're making some real progress,'' he said. "If the answer is something else, then we have to take a hard look at where we're at. But I think that our guys realize that hard, consistent defense and staying with a system is the most important part of our success.'' 他說：如果我回答"是"那我們是真的有所進步了如果我回答"不是"那我們就要認真思考我們該怎麼辦? 但我相信我們隊上的這些球員都十分清楚前後一致的防守和堅守自己的防守範圍是我們成功最重要的原因 Before that, he offered this about what the players have been told about defense. 在回答前他還提供小牛隊員對於防守的看法 "We identify defense as the No. 1 variable to us being a true contending team,'' he said. "And coming into tonight we were third in the league in points per possession. That's progress.'' And that's the way it is. 他說：我們把防守放在第一位這將使我們成為有競爭力的球隊在今晚之前我們是聯盟中失分第三少的球隊這就是我們的進步!!! The problem is that last season, that was the way it was, too. But it changed sometime after the calendar turned from 2009 to 2010. 上個球季我們也是這樣做的但在1月時卻開始有所改變... As Jason Kidd said, too many players began thinking that their shooting was their best defense. 小孩說：太多的球員開始認為攻擊就是最好的防守!!! That can't happen again this year.
