[外電] PG: Rodrigue Beaubois key to starter …

Position: Point guard
Rodrigue Beaubois and Jason Kidd
Outlook: Kidd averaged 36.0 minutes a game last season and down the stretch
he was often forced to play 40 or more, way too many for a player who will
turn 38 in March and who must be fresh for the playoffs. Kidd averaged 40.5
minutes in the first-round playoff loss against the Spurs. His tremendous
play down the stretch of the regular season disappeared as Kidd was unable to
penetrate and was ineffective as a perimeter shooter. Barea returns as a
reliable backup, but he's undersized, not a great facilitator and he's likely
hit his ceiling, one reason why the Mavs are in full development mode with
the exciting Beaubois. They are counting on Beaubois to improve enough at the
point to eat some minutes while essentialy training to take over the position
in two seasons. Beaubois wasn't exactly impressive at the point during summer
league, but it's hard to take a lot out of five games in Las Vegas, most of
which he played banged up. If coach Rick Carlisle can't take Kidd's minutes
down to about 33 a game, it will mean they didn't get what they hoped for out
of Beaubois and that they'll likely again have a tired starting point guard
in the postseason.
Most likely to step up: Face it, the reason Beaubois continually found
himself back on the bench after sensational performances at shooting guard
was because he'd go in at point guard and spit the bit. Beaubois is the lone
candidate for this category. Kidd is entering his 17th season. We know what
he can and can't bring at this stage of his career. Barea is on a low-salary,
expiring contract that could be attractive as a throw-in to complete a trade.
That possibility makes Beaubois' progress at the point even more important as
the Mavs move into the second half of the season. Beaubois will still get
most of his minutes at shooting guard and many of those will come playing
with Kidd, but it's clear the club is hopeful Beaubois will make quick
strides behind Kidd, too.
Most likely to step back: Heading into his fifth season with the Mavs, Barea,
diminutive in size only, has already eclipsed all expectations as an NBA
player. Signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Northeastern, he
worked his way into a prominent role off the bench, averaging about 20
minutes, 7.5 points and 3.4 assists over the past two seasons. But, he knows
the team is grooming Beaubois to eventually take over as the starting point
guard and that means Beuabois will likely cut into Barea's minutes this
season if -- and this is a big if -- Beaubois can handle it. Barea is
tough-minded, thick-skinned and forever hard-working. He's provided this club
relinquish his minutes without a fight.

簡單說就是預計下季會減少Kidd上場時間
讓Beaubois增加1號位置的時間XD
